Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?

I'm quite sure I'm not the only one on here who has lost money on bookings. Me, holiday in Portugal and Dutch F1 tickets, where despite no race and no flights to Faro I'm still not getting refunded, poxy vouchers at best.

This situation is going to change the habits of people in many ways, and advanced bookings will be one imo.

I had an Airbnb trip booked for May but in fairness to them, I was able to cancel and get a full refund.

The airline I booked with has tried some sneaky tactics so they don't have to refund me but if they don't take off, they have to.

I am tempted to book an autumn holiday in Cornwall since the usual summer one isn't going to happen. Need to get a credit card first mind you. Haven't had one those for 30 years (was terrible with money when I was a young idiot).

Two school holidays and a school theatre trip.

You could pay in installments...

I paid the whole lot for all three as soon as I got the emails.

About a grand. Would like to get the lot back and hopefully will but the least of my worries to be fair.

Done about £500 on the mighty mighty ESSEX, memberships and season tickets. Don't want a penny of that back. That's my passion. Money well spent for the cause.

Normally would have booked a load of away tickets and b and b's by now. Luckily held off when this was beginning to kick off. However got Surrey away tickets sorted for the whackball. I'll pursue those Surrey cunts for a refund even if I have to strike down upon them with great vengeance and furious anger.

Not sure if this is correct but if you book a flight with the airline on credit card your covered for refund but if you book the flight through a 3rd party {opodo /expedia etc} you may not be covered

As it happens though, I think no matter how we resolve this situation in the UK, international travel as we know it is a LONG way from coming back. There will have to be a vaccination for this first. It wouldn't surprise me if it takes over a year to get that back to anything like normalcy. If the UK has any sense, once we are free of the virus, the last thing we want is it coming back into the country before widespread vaccination is available.

The huge advantage we have over almost any country in the world is that we can largely prevent infected people arriving due to being an island, which is much more difficult if you have land borders.

You can't let something freakish and once in a lifetime like this dictate how you live your life in normal times.

It's just incredibly unlucky, but what can anyone do about it? I've definitely lost some trips abroad in the summer but knowing this unprecedented scenario is unlikely to happen again in our lifetime, it won't stop me booking things in future.

Expedia are moving slowly but hoping to transfer a couple of trips to the same time in 2021.
National Theatre have said they will credit my account for a show in March (still waiting to see on other things booked in July & Aug with others).
Jesus & Mary Chain have already rescheduled their March show the Roundhouse to Feb 21.

I imagine West Ham’s first contact will be to ask me to give them money for a season ticket while they aren’t fulfilling the old one.

Dan M, same as. Was going over for Lazio v Milan.

Westside, if you have paid any part of the holiday on CC and its over £100 then you are covered for the full refund you would be entitled to. That's my understanding.

I have an odd situation regarding a Haven holiday this year though, as had to pay a £60 deposit and now they are saying if it's cancelled then we get it back in vouchers. I'll be looking at the terms and conditions in full..

I'm meant to be flying back from Rome today after a nice long weekend there for my missus' birthday. Luckily Ryanair cancelled the flight in their first tranche of cutting back, when this was still a "handful of towns in Northern Italy" thing. Got a refund for that straight away and then the hotels.com apartment was on a free cancellation basis. Actually made twelve quid on that due to the GBP/Euro rates.

Only had one event that should have happened not happen - Stewart Lee's gig in Cambridge. Will wait and see if it's rearranged. Still have a gig, theatre show and festival outstanding. The first two are in May and I'll hold out for the rescheduling as I'll still want to go. The festival is August BH so there's an outside chance it might still happen.

But to answer the OP - yes of course I will. That's the way things are. If you want to go to something popular and you don't have any special queue-jumping/corporate "in" then booking as early as possible is the best way to secure that with the least hassle and arse-ache.
